Hiking in autumn

Clear air. Mild temperatures. Sweeping views.

Active

If you want to see the South Tyrolean mountains at their finest, visit us in autumn! That’s when the air turns clearer after the summer heat, opening up views that stretch far beyond the surrounding peaks and valleys, and temperatures drop to a pleasant mildness that lures you out into the great outdoors. The cool mornings and warm sun are perfect for long hikes.

Simply step outside Tratterhof and choose from the many trails that lead straight into the mountains. Some are leisurely walks through woodland and across alpine pastures, while others will challenge you with steep climbs but reward you with spectacular views. The best thing about autumn is that you can choose your route entirely according to your preferences and fitness level.

A last chance to climb high before winter

At the peak of happiness

This is the perfect time to enjoy a challenging summit climb before snow starts getting in the way. If you are an experienced mountaineer, we recommend the hike to Mt. Wilde Kreuzspitze. At 3,132 metres tall, it’s one of the most impressive peaks in the Pfunders mountains, and one of the most rewarding and panoramic viewpoints too.

Generally speaking, the weather allows for high-altitude hikes like this one well into October. Keep in mind that nature makes its own rules, however, and there’s no way to predict when the first significant snowfall of the season will strike. The weather can turn dramatically towards the end of October. If you are visiting around that time, please make sure you check the weather forecast and the current situation when planning your outings.

It doesn’t have to be a 3,000-metre peak

The leisurely side of walking

Autumn is perfect for more leisurely walks, too. A walk through the Altfasstal valley, the sunny alpine pastures or the panoramic high-mountain trails has just as much to offer as the more adventurous climbs.

This is the time of year when trails and footpaths become quieter, trees turn and basking in the sun on a terrace is simply delightful. If you enjoy a lazy morning or prefer a gentler approach to outdoor pursuits, you will find plenty of options in and around Meransen.

The lift makes things easier

Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass

Exploring the autumn landscape is even easier with a Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass in your pocket. The Gitschberg and Jochtal lift facilities are free for pass holders up until 7 November 2026, and from this autumn the Plose cable car is included too! Hop in and let the lift take you comfortably to the high-altitude trails, or use it to shorten your descent after a long day out in the mountains.

Cool… and then? Time to warm up!

A warm spa feels even more enticing after a few hours out in the crisp mountain air. Kick off your hiking boots, put your feet up and give your sore legs a rest: the Monte Silva Mountain Spa features pools, saunas and spacious relaxation areas.

There’s nothing like the warmth and tranquillity of a spa to round off an autumn day out in the mountains – especially if followed by a delectable dinner at Tratterhof.

So, take advantage of the mellow South Tyrolean autumn: lace up your hiking boots and start exploring!

There’s no better time than now for a mountain break at Tratterhof, with a perfect mix of hiking, wellness and unforgettable views of the Dolomites.
