What is celiac disease?

Anyone who suffers from celiac disease (also gluten intolerance) has a chronic disease of the small intestinal mucosa. This mucous membrane is hypersensitive to components of gluten. Gluten is a collective term for a mixture of substances made up of proteins that are found in the seeds of many types of cereals.

 

When food containing gluten is ingested, the mucous membrane of the small intestine becomes inflamed and so nutrients can only be absorbed with difficulty and remain undigested in the intestine.

What is lactose intolerance?

Lactose is a sugar contained in milk and milk products. People who cannot tolerate lactose cannot digest the milk sugar in food because the digestive enzyme lactase is missing or is produced in a reduced form.

In spite of coeliac disease or lactose intolerance, you do not have to do without anything during your holiday at the Tratterhof. Our excellent service and kitchen team will adapt to your intolerance and prepare gluten-free or lactose-free dishes for you!
