The Dolomites are probably the most impressive mountain range in the southern Alps. The so-called "pale mountains" were formed more than 200 million years ago and still fascinate scientists and tourists alike today. The abrupt change between rugged rocky peaks, which glow almost unnaturally at sunset, and gentle alpine pastures is particularly characteristic of this mountains. Due to their exceptional beauty and geology, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. The mountain range is spread over the five Italian provinces of Trentino, Belluno, Udine, Porderone and our South Tyrol. They are worth a detailed visit because of their impressive natural spectacle.
